Ripery’s Sugar seems to come out of nowhere in the back alleys of Shimokitazawa with the appearance of a forest hideaway which leaves a strong impression. This shop which is celebrating its 3rd anniversary and has even been featured on TV offers remade sneakers.
The arch made out of driftwood leading to the entrance is similar to that in the forest from the movie My Neighbor Totoro. A wall of colorful sneakers comes to greet you as you pass through this entranceway.
The sneakers are made in the workshop in back to the pleasing sounds of sewing machines. These sneakers have a street vibe overflowing with style and humor. The items are based on the concept of “producing items which are named not as products, but as works of art.” This shop offers a collection of these works which somehow make you feel that you’d rather display them in your house rather than wear them.
