Jan.13, 2020 (monday holiday) Shibuya "Meeting to celebrate new adults)
Venue : LINE CUBE SHIBUYA
This year, the Coming of Age Ceremony for Shibuya Ward was held in its original location at tehe LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (from 2016-2019, it was held at Meiji Jingu Hall).
Although the formalwear of the participants was unlike the flashy clothing of participants around the time that the ceremony began to be filmed (2012), it was a departure from the simple formalwear popular in recent years. Participants showed attention to small details in accessorizing their outfits, which was eye-catching. It appears that the colors, patterns, and materials used in kimonos has slowly been changing, and there were many people dressed in outfits and with hairstyles that were a little bit retro. Kimonos and used clothing from the Taisho to early Showa Periods, as well as used clothing that has been upcycled, have been popular for many years, and it seems this trend is continuing. Recently, many rental kimonos have also been adapted to fit the demand for glamorous styles with less vibrant colors, and many of them are advertised with words like “soft” and “gentle.” The models in the ads for these rental kimonos often have retro hairstyles as well. In addition, even the fashions worn by male participants, which are usually less subject to change, had different patterns and subtle color variations, giving an impression of freshness.
