Broken Doll which opened 4 years ago is in the same building as the Honda Theater near the south exit of Shimokitazawa station. This pop and punk shop seems to have recreated New Romanticism from the 1980s for present times.
The concept of the store is “Everything starts from destruction.” Broken Doll is a Japanese indies brand featuring colorful, destructive and powerful designs which were created from mixing 70’s and 80’s London punk fashions. Broken Doll also produces music with the J-Rock band named Broken Doll. The eccentric fashion communicated from venues is building a counter-culture for a new generation.
The fashion items designed from being in a band are created from the intense connection between music and fashion as works of art by musicians just as the music is.
Similar to the relationship between Vivienne Westwood and the Sex Pistols, there seems to be a concept of wanting to enliven fashion and music using synergy as one movement.
